Just like Frank, we are all Typical Canadians.

our stories

A Typical Canadian

TC was an idea inspired by the memory of a man, who accomplished great feats in his life, but whose greatest accomplishment was being a Typical Canadian.

frank moores “These last eight months were the best and worst of my life, the worst because I had a cancer and everything that goes with it, but it was the best because you always know how much you love your family, you have no idea until going through something like this how much they love you back.” When Frank Duff Moores, the successful businessman and prominent politician, was diagnosed with liver cancer he was well aware of the challenges ahead of him. However, he learned in the final year of his life the importance of family and leaving his time on earth filled with accomplishments that were not won in a board room or through an election, but with lasting impressions left with the people he cared about.

Frank is still celebrated by many of his former constituents for bringing back true democracy to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, but to his family and friends he is remembered for his passion for the outdoors and sports, his captivating stories, and most of all as a caring, elegant human being and family man. During his battle with cancer he demonstrated the will power, courage and compassion typical of the many Canadians afflicted with the disease. He truly was the definition of a Typical Canadian.

Frank Moores was a Typical Canadian who died of cancer on July 10th 2005.

It was the relationships Frank cemented in his final year that spurred the vision to honour him and to give back to the society to which he devoted a large portion of his life.  Every week, on average, 3,075 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer and a resounding 1,398 Canadians will die from cancer.   Regardless of age, sex, background or achievements, everyone is affected by this disease.

Firefighters of Canada

frank mooresTypically Canadian has teamed up with fire departments across Canada, to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer. All proceeds will go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Firefighters are at increased risk for many cancers.  The Typically Canadian Group believes it is crucial to create an awareness of this issue as well as lobby to promote passing of legislation that compensates affected firefighters and their families in a fair way.

Click here for more information on presumptive legislation that was passed most recently in Ontario May 2007. This is a very serious issue regarding workplace safety issue and deserves our support.

2008 TC Tribute Tour

In the summer of 2008, five young men will set off on a journey across Canada, to inspire others, not with the physical feat of riding their bikes, but by relaying the inspirational stories of Canadians who have battled this merciless disease and honouring all Typical Canadians who have gone above and beyond in the fight against cancer.  TCG will honour Typical Canadians, everyday people, who may not always have national or even local prominence but who make a difference in the lives of people that matter most to them.  TCG hopes that Canadians, in honour of all of these brave people, band together to fight as one synergized team.  An NHL team does not win the Stanley Cup because of one player, they win because they bond together and battle as a unified group.  The cure for cancer is much more important then the Stanley Cup and the battle for all those going through this disease is much more difficult than a typical playoff run, but the chance of succeeding increases when we team up as Typical Canadians.

“If they say one person can make a difference, imagine what a nation can do…” - Typically Canadian
